Increase Home Privacy with These Window Styles

Natural light from windows on a home is important in all parts of the country, especially the Sunshine State of Florida. Although these functional pieces to the architecture of your home certainly let the sunshine in, their opacity can also reveal much of your interior to the outside world.

Privacy is important, especially if your home is closely positioned to your neighbors, and the level of privacy you require certainly varies from room to room. In the past, window treatments were the only solution, completely cutting off views from and into your home.

In addition to window treatments, there are now a variety of window glass styles that increase home privacy while also maintaining design aesthetics. The Window Depot is quite familiar with all these options. Here are six ways in which you can enhance the privacy of your home.

Types of Privacy Windows

Frosted Glass. One of the more popular options found on bathrooms and walk-in closets with windows, frosted glass lets in natural light while obscuring the view into these private areas of your home. Windows can also be partially frosted, letting in light above the privacy line.

Adhesive Films. If replacing the entire window is not an option for you, adhesive films with decorative patterns emulating the frosted glass effect are an affordable alternative. Much like window clings, most of these films stick non-destructively to your window’s glass without the need for glue.

Window Tinting. Think of an automobile with dark tinted windows, except on your home’s windows! Tinting is similar to decorative adhesive films but with a solid level of darkness that protects interior decor from harmful UV rays and enhances privacy in any room.

Stained Glass - A more design-specific style, stained glass windows are the decorative counterpart to frosted glass, just as decorative adhesive films are the counterpart to window tinting. This type of glass can come in a variety of colors, patterns, and even custom designs.

Frosted Glass Window Covers. Think of the frosted glass option mentioned above and put it on hinges! This option is more of a window treatment like shades and blinds, giving users an option to open the frosted cover when a bathroom or closet is not in use.

Wood Slab Screens. Also referred to as shutters, this older concept has been given a modern touch on many homes with a contemporary design. Wood slab screens can be opened or closed, always letting in enough natural light while hiding your interior.
